Corona-Age Webinars on Counter-Terrorism

With Covid-19 and social distancing that comes along with it, countless webinars have been developed and broadcast. In multiple areas: politics, the economy, natural science, technology, etc. This also goes for the subjects of Counter-Terrorism (CT) and Counter-Extremism. Some such webinars have appeared on individual websites or as videocasts, others in apps and via podcast services, and righteously so.

Webinars can do much good where the moderators and speakers are subject-matter experts. They reach a different target audience than printed material. Some webinar announcements so far make reference to rather understandable content, though there may be specialized ones as well.

When it comes to CT and the like, documents have been made available to the public thousands of times over the years. The material is often freely accessible, but it is sometimes difficult to understand and comes in such an amount that it is confusing.

While the classical CT conference is costly, less so are webinars. Oftentimes, registration is free of cost. It remains to be seen whether the rate in which webinars are being offered remains high after Covid-19. Let us hope that recordings of CT webinars will be properly indexed and archived accessibly, benefitting the public of academics, faculty members or university students, and practitioners alike.
